Just Like Suz Post a Message

Suzanne was one of the most unique people any of us knew. She had a joyful, vibrant, inspired, and deeply passionate personality. To this day, there are certain things that remind each of us of Suz...a color, an expression, a song, a book, a dish, a restaurant. Please share with us here all of the things--big and small--that have you thinking of Suz every day.

Olive You

Everything culinary reminds me of Suz! We once made an exotic meal from epicurious.com for the Munson family and spent half the day looking for what at the time were hard to find items in Lakeland (like edamame at Publix). More recently we made little olive dishes for our mom's at one of those paint your own pottery places... she always thought I was the more creative between the two of us, but I copied her idea of writing "Olive you" on the dish :)
rice expansion

jase & i drove drove through richmond on the way home to fla this summer and decided to stay overnight in suz's old town. we toasted to our dear friend at Millie's, the great diner right next to her old tobacco row apt where we'd take her for letting us crash at her place. we laughed about suz once again eating too much sushi at Sticky Rice and how she complained the entire way home about the rice expanding in her stomach.

did a few double-takes while in DC the other day of cute blond girls wearing pink running clothes...though no one could do the suz signature stride justice! will never forget the way she rocked out to songs by meatloaf, galloping through the city.

It's so funny that both Sarah and Emily's messages are about food...Suz loved her food, and she loved people who loved food! Every time I have Thai food it reminds me of Suz...and I can't order from Gobo without thinking of Suz. I remember the great dinner party she had at her apartment in NYC, with her "dream" foods--meatballs, Gobo dinners, cheese, walnut raisin bread, ice cream sandwiches, and wine. : ) An eclectic (and delicious) mix!
Walking...
Posted by: Leslie Kane on 2009-06-17
Last Friday (Suz's Birthday), I was walking down the street and tripped on some uneven sidewalk pavement. Not like a little trip- with a quick recovery and with no one noticing, but one of those big, arms-flailing,balance defying, one-hand down to the payment, everyone noticing- kind of missteps. Fortunately, I recovered just before hitting the ground. And, I smiled-- because i couldn't help but think of our Suz. I felt like she was right there with me- smiling (or laughing) at me. And so i wished her a happy birthday. Happy birthday, Suz. I miss you so much.
San Diego

Talk of a Princeton girls' reunion in San Diego has gotten me thinking of Suz...Kirsten, Gailor, Suz, and I had a grat time at Inflat-a-world and Hash House A Go Go. That picture of a grinning Suzanne about to dig into a granola pancake the size of her head is classic Suz. :)
oo oo oo

been thinking a lot about suz lately, especially when 'diamonds on the soles of her shoes' came on the other night at granville moore's belgian moules-frites restau in dc. made me think of all the mixes that suz gave me, each with a wild grouping of eclectic songs that only suz could make me love. she even got me to admit that i too secretly liked a certain group though suz proudly announced (in front of everyone) that she was no closet meatloaf lover. after hearing that paul simon classic, i phoned mama munson and had a nice chat. it was a good night. "And I could say oo oo oo, As if everybody knows What I'm talking about, As if everybody here would know Exactly what I was talking about, Talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes"
Republic of Tea
Posted by: Andrea Hoberman Martinez on 2009-12-14
I sat next to Suzanne for two years during our time at the NIH and we were both huge tea lovers. I'll never forget the large collection of Republic of Tea varieties that she kept at her desk, always offering us her latest favorite. When I got engaged in February 2008, not long after she passed, I was at a bed and breakfast in the Catskills and the first thing I saw in the kitchen was a huge display of Republic of Tea containers...it made me smile all weekend.
